PERT - Florida's Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (PERT)
The PERT is an entry-level placement test required of all degree seeking students in the Florida College System (FCS) according to Florida Statutes, Section 1008.30, Rule 6A-10.0315. This test will determine your initial placement in English, reading and mathematics courses. Exemptions can be found here: Exemptions to Requirements for Taking the PERT.

Prepare for Your PERT Math Exam / ACCUPLACER Advanced Algebra and Functions (AAF) With LOM
- Learn from expert instructors in an interactive, online classroom setting, with both group and individual attention.
- There’s no failing the exam; however, it will impact the courses you’ll take at community college. So, it's important that you study for the test.
- The PERT assessment is meant to determine whether you are ready for college level classes. Ultimately, your score on the test will place you in either college-prep or college-level courses. Consequently, the more seriously you take the test, the more likely you are to prepare appropriately.
- In the end, it would be better to take the proper developmental or prep class and be well-prepared for the college-level class rather than to fail and retake it. Even though taking a prep course would require an extra cost upfront, it could more than pay for itself down the road in terms of time, emotional health, and even further tuition costs.
PERT Quick Testing Facts (Source: valenciacollege.edu/students/assessments/pert.php)
- The PERT is not a pass/fail assessment. The results of the assessment will determine your placement for English and Math courses at Valencia College.
- Three sections: Reading, Writing, and Mathematics.
- 30 questions per section.
- Not timed.
- Must be completed in the same day. Allow yourself at least 2.5 to 3 hours for all three sections of the PERT.
- Personal calculators are not permitted, however there will be a computer calculator available on certain math questions of the test.
- If you are required to take all three sections of the PERT, you must take the Reading and Writing portion prior to the Math section. Exceptions will be made on a case-by-case basis.
